Drywall and Interior Patch Repair in Rio Rancho

Water that gets through a wall shows up inside. That is why interior patching sits on a stucco company’s list rather than somebody else’s: by the time you can see it, you have two halves of one problem.

What we repair

Leak and water damage. Stained, soft, or bubbling drywall below a window, at a parapet line, in a ceiling corner, or along an exterior wall. Damaged board is cut out rather than patched over, because wet gypsum does not recover and painting it just moves the problem behind a coat.

Cracks. Settlement cracking at door and window corners, along ceiling and wall joints, and at tape lines. Most are cosmetic. Some are the interior expression of something happening outside, which is worth knowing before you fill it, and the stucco cracks page explains how to tell.

Holes and impact damage. Doorknobs, furniture, plumbing and electrical access cuts.

Texture matching, which is most of what makes a repair invisible.

The order that matters

Find the water first. This is the whole point of having one company look at both sides. An interior patch over an active leak is a repair with an expiry date, and the second one costs the same as the first.

Around Rio Rancho and Corrales the usual sources are: a stucco crack that has opened enough to admit wind-driven rain, a parapet or cap that is no longer shedding water off a flat roof, a failed window or door seal, and roof penetrations. Monsoon storms find all of them, which is why the calls cluster in late summer.

Once the exterior is sound, the interior repair holds.

Texture, and why patches show

Interior texture is a smaller family than exterior stucco, but the same rule applies: it is hand work, and two competent people produce visibly different results.

The common ones here are knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel, hand textures, and smooth. Matching means identifying which you have, matching the coarseness, sampling on a board, and then deciding where the new texture stops. As with stucco, a patch that ends in the middle of a flat wall leaves an edge the eye finds, so sometimes the right answer is to carry the texture to a corner. The same reasoning is laid out for exteriors on the texture matching guide.

Paint is its own step. A patch painted with the original colour on a wall that has aged will still read as a patch, so we are straight about whether a wall needs repainting to a break.

What it costs

Interior work is quoted from the damage rather than from a table, because a hole is a different job from a wall with a season of water in it. What we can say up front:

  • A small patch with texture and paint is a modest, same-visit job.
  • Water-damaged board is priced by how much has to come out, and that is decided after we look behind it rather than before.
  • Doing the exterior source at the same visit is cheaper than two mobilisations, and we will quote them together so you can see both numbers.

The exterior ranges stay on the published pricing page.

Photograph the damage, and the exterior of the same wall if you can. Tell us whether it appeared after a storm, whether it has been repaired before, and whether it is still getting worse. That last answer tells us whether we are chasing an active leak. We cover Rio Rancho, Corrales, Albuquerque, Bernalillo, Placitas, and Los Ranchos.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does a stucco company do drywall?

Because the two problems arrive together. When water gets through a stucco wall, a parapet, or a failed window seal, the damage you can see is usually on the inside. Fixing the exterior without repairing the interior leaves the job half done, and repairing the interior without finding the exterior source means doing it again next monsoon.

Can you match my wall texture?

Usually, yes. Interior textures are a smaller family than stucco finishes: knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel, hand texture and smooth cover almost everything in this area. We sample on a board before touching the wall, because matching a texture is the difference between a repair you forget about and one you look at every day.

How do I know the water source is fixed?

That is the question worth asking before any interior work starts. Patching over an active leak buys a few months and costs the price of doing it twice. We look for the source first, and where it is a stucco crack, a parapet, or a cap, that is the part we fix before anything goes back on the inside.

Do you do whole rooms or only patches?

Both. Sometimes a patch is right and sometimes carrying the texture to a natural break, a corner or a full wall, is the only way it disappears. That is the same principle as exterior texture matching and we will tell you which one your wall needs.
